I was trying to pinpoint my favorite gift. After much consideration, I have decided it was my cat, Misty, that my parents got me when I turned 8. I remember keeping my eyes closed while my mom placed her in my arms. She had a yellow hair ribbon tied in a bow around her neck. Misty was the first pet that was truly mine and she was the start of my deep love and appreciation of animals. I keep telling my sisters that I don’t need anything for my birthday this year. I think that I’m beginning to understand that things don’t necessarily bring happiness, but people and relationships do. Are there any gifts that stick out in your mind that were really special to you? (I know it’s impossible to say one thing or another was your favorite)

Welcome to the rest of your life

Well……..I have decided to make a positive life change.

We have a bunch of exercise equipment in the basement here at work and I have just started working out. It doesn’t get much more convenient than that, does it? And yes, I’ve worked at the same place for 2 years, but I haven’t been “ready” to start until now I guess. I didn’t have a lightbulb moment or anything; I’ve just been feeling bad about myself for quite awhile and I believe I’m ready to make a commitment now.

I used to go to Curves and I did lose weight and gain energy but I stopped going when the other women there got too catty/cliquey for me. I have a friend at work that’s going to start working out with me so hopefully we can keep each other motivated.

I’m not really sure what my “goals” are…I’m not brave enough to post any numbers or anything…and God knows I’ll never be mistaken for Kate Moss…but I’d like to have more energy and just generally feel better about myself.

So there. I’m not looking for advice, judgment, expectations, etc. It just feels real if I actually write the words down.

And these children that you spit on

As they try to change their worlds

Are immune to your consultations

They're quite aware of what they're going through
-David Bowie “Changes”

Maybe I should start flossing

I have a cavity! He sauntered in and didn’t even acknowledge me. I stopped him before he shoved his hand in my mouth and said hi. What a nice guy.

He looked at my x-ray and started muttering about 13 D L something. I was like “what’s that?” and he’s all “that’s a cavity.” It wasn't even on the tooth in question! I’m so disappointed. I haven’t had a cavity in 6 years. Now I have to get numbed up. I hate going to the dentist.

Be Kind, I'm a First Time Blogger

Welcome. My hopes for this blog are to inform and entertain you. Or at least give you something to read while you’re bored at work. I don’t plan to post anything earth-shattering, just those things that are merely noteworthy.

In case you would like some background info, let me enlighten you. I went to school at Galesburg-Augusta and WMU. I live in Kalamazoo with my sister Molly, our dogs Petie and Rocky, cats Lizzie and Louie, and guinea pig Snuggles. I am the payroll supervisor for an apartment management company. I love watching “The Office” and anything animal-cops-related on Animal Planet. I hate bad drivers, coconut and the smell of cigarette smoke. I’m also allergic to booze. Depending on which day of the pay period you catch me, I’m either happy, sassy, trashy, funny or just plain geck-y.

Let’s get started with my current events shall we?

I am so unbelievably ready for spring that it’s not even funny. Sure, winter has its advantages, like watching Molly walk funny down the driveway while trying not to fall, or bundling up at home with the dogs because the roads are too bad to go out. But I’m done with it. (For now. Remind me of this when I’m dripping sweat in August.) I’m ready to plant flowers, celebrate my birthday, take the dogs for walks, and hang out with the cats on the porch.

Lately I’m into the show “Dexter.” We rented 3 discs of season one and “Eye for an Eye” and bought Popeye (for $1.95! Come on, do you remember it? Classic.) last weekend at Family Video. Then Molly asked the guy at the counter if they had “Arthur 2: On the Rocks” (which they did not). Judging by our eclectic choices, our account there may indicate that we are sociopaths.

I rearranged my bedroom last week and it still confuses me when I first walk in.

I’m excited to get my tax refund. I plan to pay down (off?) my 2 credit cards, get new chairs for the living room, buy some new shoes for work and blow whatever is left. I can’t wait!!

I ran into my own garage on Sunday and scraped one of my rear doors. Not one of my best moments.

That about wraps up my first entry. Feel free to comment. Or not. I know you’re busy. Thanks for reading!
